The Biography

REV 21 bridges the gap between the average pop/rock listener and those that desire some spirituality in their music.  And their music is spreading - They were recently profiled in an article at Christianity Today.com as one of "10 Indie Artists You Should Know".

Interest in spiritually based music is growing.  This is evident in the successful sales of such musical acts as Jars of Clay, and the recent chart topping releases by POD, Creed, Sixpence None The Richer and U2.  REV 21 stands ready to provide material that not only entertains but uplifts and inspires all who listen.

Whether the song is pop, rock, or praise and worship, their walk with Christ fuels the content of all of the lyrics they write.

While growing up in South Carolina, Rick and Tim performed regularly with their band MOST WANTED, gaining an avid fan base and local airplay for their original songs. In the early-nineties, the brothers moved to Los Angeles and by 1996 they released their first self-produced independent CD under the name FROG HAIR (nothing finer).

Having a clear direction in mind for the band, Rick and Tim handled their own promotion, marketing and station give-a-ways. Within three months time, they had been added to almost 70 CMJ radio stations nationwide.  Several of the cuts achieved medium to heavy rotation on two thirds of those CMJ stations.  FROG HAIR charted in the Top 30 on eleven CMJ stations where, in some cases, the band was the only unsigned act on the charts.  Two stations, kept them on the charts for over two-and-a-half months!

Now blessed with the production skills of Alan Shacklock, who has worked with Phil Keaggy, the Newsboys, Meatloaf, and Andrew Lloyd Weber to name a few, Rick and Tim have a fresh new sound. They stand ready to deliver the goods again with REV 21.  This band truly believes in its purpose.to reach the lost, to edify their brothers and sisters in Christ, to entertain all who will listen, and above all glorify God.

Like other Christian Bands REV21 proclaims the "Good News of Jesus Christ" through their music, but also with their testimony. Having lived a life chasing the rock-n-roll dream on Hollywood's Sunset strip, REV21 has much to talk about. "Although we weren't into drugs we did have an addiction to pornography coupled with an unhealthy abuse of alcohol," admits singer/cofounder Tim Hammond. Their story is one of being lost and without hope... that is until they turned to Jesus for help. "I know that I hid my porn problem for almost my entire preteen, teen, and adult life", says Tim. "It wasn't until I asked Jesus for help that I was ever able to find any real independence from my addiction. It is still a daily struggle but now I have hope because Jesus has changed my life for the better, and I can never go back to that hell again without totally losing the only real peace that I have come to know... Jesus saved my marriage and my life. This is the message that we deliver to anyone that will listen. No, this isn't a G-rated message, but that is because our culture isn't G-rated anymore. Of course we back off any explicit descriptions when children are in the audience... we don't want to add to the problem. But we don't pull any punches when we get the opportunity because we are at war with the devil and he plays very dirty.”

In the near future Rev21 hopes to have a DVD version of their 'general audience' testimony which can be played before and after their live performances. “This will allow us to go deeper into our testimony more quickly when we are in front of the more mature groups," says Tim.

REV21 is able to cater their show/testimony to just about any size venue, ranging from large churches and conferences, to small acoustic or coffee house settings. Recently the band ventured into a women's prison in Tennessee where they received such a positive response that they can't wait to return and hope to make it a part of their regular show dates.

Late breaking news: REV21 is currently being considered to perform at World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany, August 2005.

The CD: Hope

With an infectious blend of pop/rock sounds and harmonies REV21 deliver a lyrical message that is both upbeat and inspirational.  Tim Hammond describes the sound of the CD as “everything but the kitchen sink. We gave our producer free reign to do whatever he wanted to our sound, we just wanted to keep the basic chord structure, lyrics and vocal melodies. It is amazing to see the differences that he (Alan) achieved. Some songs were hardly touched, and others differ like night and day from their original sound. Over all, I think that it makes for an entertaining listen.”

The CD contains a little bit of everything from rock, to alternative, to soft ballad, to praise and worship. “We walked away feeling as though there was something here for everyone” says Tim.

Currently the band is writing songs for the next CD which they hope to have completed by this summer. The band expects their new CD to have a little more edge than their last project. “We have already played some of the material live and folks seem to really enjoy what we are coming up with. I can’t what to let you hear it.”
